""Can a reporter be an artist?" In my work, that is a question I'm constantly being pressed on.
Having grown up around comics and cartoons, my poison of choice was always in the fantasy genre. While they served as fun escapism, I became increasingly jaded and tired of the same archtypal stories. I wanted something more.
I turned to journalism as a means of portraying the lives of everyday people. What started as casual conversations led to a series of interviews with student activists, drug-addicts, LAPD detectives, and an arson investigator. I found myself not only documenting their experiences and struggles, but filtering it into an art form which I hope can truly celebrate who they are as individuals."
Jeff Chang was born and raised in the California bay area. He now resides in Long Beach where he is currently obtaining his masters in illustration at Cal State Long Beach.
